Winter FAQs


We know that you need to collect a lot of information together before you book your winter holiday. And even once it's booked, there is always loads of planning to do. We are here to help you along the way and we've written a list of frequently asked questions below to help you. You can always e-mail us too if you don't find the answer to your question below.


BILLING AND PAYMENTS

Do I book directly with Chilly Powder or can I book through a travel agent?
We only take direct bookings and we don't work with travel agents for our winter ski holidays. Booking a family ski holiday involves lots of small details and we wouldn't be able to offer you our excellent pre-holiday service if we took bookings through travel agents. Our booking procedures mean that we get to know the individual requirements of our guests before they arrive - your holiday will always start smoothly!

How do I pay for the various different parts of my holiday?
You pay your holiday deposit when you make your booking and your balance 8 weeks in advance of your arrival. You also pay in advance for any childcare that you pre-book. If you ask us to arrange your airport transfers and collect your lift passes for you, we will charge these to your credit card upon your arrival in resort. At the end of your holiday all that remains is your bar bill and the nightly 1.50 euro tourist tax that we are obliged to add to your account.

Do you recommend that we take out holiday insurance?
When you book your holiday with us we ask you to confirm that you have the appropriate holiday insurance in place to cover any cancellation or holiday curtailment that you might be forced to make. Our holiday deposits and balances are non-refundable and so it is essential that you have holiday insurance in place when you book with us. 

TRANSPORT

How do we get from the airport to Chilly Powder?
You can either arrange your own airport transfers, hire a car or we can arrange your airport transfers for you. When we send your reservation confirmation e-mail this will include a transfer booking form. We ask you for your accurate flight times and flight numbers as well as any car seat requirements. We then arrange for you to be collected from the airport with minimum fuss or hassle. You can find out more about our airport transfers here.

Do you transport us to the ski slopes each day?
Chilly Powder chalets are located across the piste to the main lift to Avoriaz (1800m) and 50 meters away from a beginners button lift which takes you to the cable car too. Our guests therefore have the advantage of not needing transportation each day before they even start to ski! We don't offer any private transport in to Morzine but there is a very reliable and free shuttle bus all day, which leaves every 10 minutes for Morzine from just opposite the hotel.

SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING

I see that you have a ski school for children - do you have something similar for adults?
We don't have a ski school specifically for adults but we can certainly recommend some excellent ski schools in the local area that offer either private lessons or group lessons to skiers of all different abilities The one thing we always recommend is that you think about your ski lesson requirements in advance of your holiday and book them directly with the ski school to avoid disappointment.

How does your children's ski school work?
We have been coordinating children's ski lessons for many years and our guests tell us that it's a great way for their children to learn to ski and meet other children at the same time. It's really important that you read the fact sheet on our ski lessons before you book your children in to our ski school.

I'd like to hire my skis and boots from you - how do I do this?
We don't have a hire shop within the chalets but we can recommend three excellent local companies, all of which take pre-orders online and offer Chilly Powder guests a 10% discount. Visit the recommendations page of this website for more details. Using one of our recommended companies for your ski hire means that you deal with a company who know exactly where Chilly Powder is located for deliveries, etc.

FOOD AND WINE

Do we have to eat separately to our children?
Our chalets are set up for children to enjoy their evening meal at 5.30pm and adults at 8.00pm. Unfortunately we cannot deviate from this arrangement unless you have the absolute exclusive use of a chalet. During some peak weeks of the season when we have a number of teenagers in the chalet we will add a 6.30pm sitting for dinner. Children aged 16 and over pay a full adult rate to stay at Chilly Powder and they are therefore very welcome to join the adults supper table at 8pm.

Can we have lunch in the chalet?
Unfortunately we do not offer lunch in any of our chalets but we are able to recommend both local restaurants and mountain restaurants for you to enjoy. Also, if you would prefer we can prepare a packed lunch for you, priced at 15 euros per day, if you pre-order with your Chalet Host.

When you say that wines are included with dinner, how much wine do you mean?
Your chalet hosts will begin to pour your wine when you sit down for dinner. The inclusive wine will continue until dinner is finished. You can of course buy additional wine, either from our bar selection or from our special vintage collection and your chalet host will be happy to prepare this for you. 

Can we choose from a menu each evening?
Our Head Chef has written a diverse menu using locally sourced produce. We do not produce a choice menu for you to select your dishes from but the menu does vary during the course of the week. If you have any special dietary requirements, or if you are vegetarian then an alternative meal will be prepared for you each evening.

Can we invite friends for dinner?
Any friends or family that you have staying nearby are very welcome to join you for dinner. All we need is 24 hours notice to let our Chef know. At times the number of extra guests may be restricted due to your chalet being at capacity but we will always do our best to fit everyone in. The extra price per adult for dinner is 45 euros including wines.

Can I drink the tap water in the chalets?
Our guests often tell us that the water from our taps tastes much better than bottled mineral water. We suggest that you drink as much as possible during your holiday!

WELL BEING

How do I book treatments in your spa?
We recommend that you take a look at our treatment menu online and make a booking with our therapist before your holiday. Prime times for treatments are between 4pm and 6pm each day and these slots get booked up very quickly. 

Is there an indoor swimming pool in Morzine?
There is a new indoor swimming pool in the centre of Morzine. It is easily accessed from Chilly Powder using the free shuttle bus that passes the hotel every 10 minutes. 

STAFF

Do I tip the chalet staff at the end of my holiday or do you include gratuities in our bill automatically?
Gratuities are not included in your resort bill or in our holiday prices and they are left entirely at your own discretion. On the last evening of your holiday before you go home you'll find your resort bill in your bedroom in an envelope with a feedback questionnaire. We welcome all of your comments and feedback and you can then use the envelope to pass on a tip to Nick if you wish. All tips are shared equally amongst the team each week. 

Can our chalet staff take us ski guiding during our holiday?
Only qualified and experienced ski guides are able to take guests ski touring during their holiday. Lots of winter holiday companies offer ski guiding as part of their holiday package but this is only legally allowed by certified and properly insured ski guides. We can of course arrange an instructor or a guide for you but this would not be a member of the Chilly Powder team and extra charges would apply.

Does the chalet day off ever change?
Wednesday is usually the chalet day off but this does change during the Christmas and New Year period. If you are staying with us over the festive period and you would like to check the chalet day off, please do send us an e-mail. During peak weeks such as school holidays the local restaurants do get very busy and it's always worth asking us for a recommendation in advance and then to book a table for you.

Does your creche take children from other hotels or chalets?
Our childcare facilities are for the exclusive use of Chilly Powder guests, whether they are staying in Au Coin du Feu, Chalet Le Plan des Rochers, Des Amis or one of our apartments. Unfortunately we cannot look after children who's families are not holidaying with Chilly Powder.
